Bayern: Kahn and Mathews clash in the air ahead of Dortmund’s win

Oliver Kahn and Lothar Mathews clashed on Sky over the way Julian Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern during the classics pregame show against Dortmund.

Thomas Tuchel’s debut at Bayern-Bank came with a classic triumph over Dortmund that returned the champions to the top of the Bundesliga.

A little earlier, however, Bayern’s mood was less than ideal after two legends, former captains and former teammates of the team, fought each other on Sky Air, one the current CEO and the other a commentator for the German broadcaster. Oliver Kahn and Lothar Mathews had a heated argument over the way Julian Nagelsmann was sacked and neither relented despite the fact that a crucial game would start in minutes with a new face on the bench for their beloved side.

Mateus questioned the ethics as Nagelsmann learned he was leaving the club after first being informed via the media. Nagelsmann was on a skiing holiday because of the suspension of the national team championships, so he wasn’t in Munich.

“Certainly no one at Bayern was responsible for the leak. You didn’t do it yourself. It was clear from the start that Julian Nagelsmann was the first to hear about it. You don’t want to say that to a manager over the phone. At least that’s not my style and it’s not FC Bayern’s style either.” notes Kan.

Kahn then took aim at Mathews, who argued that the meaning of the club’s motto (complete with 16 principles), Mia San Mia (“We are who we are”), is dubious: “I’ll ask you Lothar. What do you actually mean by Mia San Mia when you always assume that Mia San Mia no longer applies?

“Oliver, I’m not waging a personal war against you. You can call me anytime. I know people at FC Bayern that you might not know either, and I talk to them. I didn’t say it matters “worse, but that it’s different”, was Matthew’s reply.

Kahn did not miss these words either: “Maybe one of us has memory problems. Even in our time – perhaps you still remember – there were always decisions that were not easy and – and this is the most important – had to be made for the success of the club. These were not always popular. But I would be very, very cautious with this suggestion that we don’t keep the Bayern style.”

“I know that Oliver Kahn is lying. He just wanted to distract us from his problems and that’s why he attacked me. But I was prepared. I’m just saying what I hear, see and feel doesn’t fit”Mateus said at half-time and commented when Nagelsmann found out about his dismissal.

In fact, Sky also submitted a statement from Nagelsmann’s advisor, according to which the German coach confirmed that he had heard about the development through the media. The broadcaster also contacted Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic on the subject, but received no response. “That says it all. I won’t say anything more about Oliver Kahn.” Matheus closed.
