The cool Russian has finally woken up in the NHL. And he gave the best match of the year!

Svechnikov designed assistant poker.

Carolina forward Andrei Svechnikov played the best match of the last year! For the first time in his career, he won assist poker and only for the second time scored 4 points! The last time was December 5, 2024 against Colorado.

The Russian also helped Carolina confidently beat Dallas.

Team form

“Carolina” beat “New Jersey” with a score of 3:1 in the last meeting, and broke a three-game losing streak, during which they conceded 17 goals! In general, the Hurricanes lack consistency, as evidenced by four wins in their last 10 games.

Despite the results, Roderick Brindamore’s team continues to fight for first place in the East. And the team leaders continue to improve their statistics. For example, Sebastian Aho scored 9 points (4+5) in the last five matches, and Svechnikov had 4 scoring points (2+2) in the previous three meetings.

But the home game with Dallas looked like an excellent opportunity for Carolina to start a new winning streak, because the opponent is not in the best shape: the Stars have five losses in a row, but at the same time they are in second place in the Western Conference.

Svechnikov on fire

Carolina opened the scoring in the eighth minute: Andrei Svechnikov was in a convenient shooting position, but instead made a cool pass to Kay-Andre Miller, who put the hosts ahead. Dallas responded pretty quickly.

Just a few shifts later, the Stars converted the power play thanks to the efforts of Jason Robertson. True, there was some luck here: during the chaos on the penny, goalkeeper Brandon Bussey accidentally threw the puck into his own net, and the goal was credited to Robertson.

And then Carolina converted the first power play in the match. Shane Gostisbere again put the hosts ahead – 2:1. Svechnikov also took part in the attack, scoring an assist double.

The Hurricanes were able to extend their lead before the break. 65 seconds before the siren, Logan Stankoven completed a gorgeous solo pass with an accurate throw. In the second period, Carolina continued to develop its advantage. And again, it could not have happened without the Russian forward. This time Svechnikov involved Miller in the attack and helped him score a double. But Andrey did not stop there.

Less than two minutes later, he helped the hosts convert the majority. But in this episode, “Carolina”, of course, was very lucky: the Russian threw it into the zone along the boards, and the puck unexpectedly bounced onto the penny. Seth Jarvis drove nearby and shot at the half-empty gate. Now Svechnikov has 12+23 in 43 games.

Svechnikov gave four assists in a match for the first time in his career! In the third period, the Stars attempted a comeback. They even scored again, but they failed to save the match. “Carolina” confidently beat “Dallas” – 6:3.

Disaster in the hockey palace of the 2026 Olympics. Holes in the building. And in the ice

The situation at the hockey palace in Milan, where the 2026 Olympic Games matches will be played, resonated in various media.

On Friday, the first match took place at the palace, which was a test of the building’s preparation for the 2026 Olympic Games. The Italian Cup match took place, which revealed many problems.

What surprised me most was the extremely poor quality of the ice holes formed in it; This situation posed a danger to the players and did not allow the match to take place normally.

Ice problems are reportedly not that difficult to solve, but there are other challenges as well. The building itself is not yet completed. There are holes where builders do not have time to complete the work.

This means the room temperature is unstable, making ice problems difficult to resolve. But the organizers promise to sort everything out before the tournament starts.

The Olympic hockey tournament begins on February 5 with women’s team play.
