Gonzalo Ramos opened the scoring for the hosts in the 69th minute before Venezia player Halhal turned the ball into his own net in the 89th minute to guarantee all three points.
The result gives Milan two wins from their opening two fixtures in Serie A, leaving them with maximum points after a challenging contest against their Venice-based opponents.
Milan fielded their team without Joao, who was omitted from the matchday squad entirely as he prepares for a transfer to Turkish club Galatasaray.
