AC Milan came from behind to defeat Manchester United 4-2 in an entertaining pre-season friendly at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday.
The Italian side recovered after falling behind twice in the match, with second-half goals from Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos and former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek securing victory in the final warm-up fixture for both teams before the start of their official 2026/27 campaigns.
Manchester United opened the scoring after just two minutes when defender Harry Maguire turned the ball past the goalkeeper. Milan equalised in the 37th minute through Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, who finished neatly after being set up by Ramos.
The Premier League side had a golden opportunity to retake the lead shortly before half-time when they were awarded a penalty kick. Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes took the penalty, but Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani guessed the correct corner to make the save and keep the scores level at half-time.
Second half goals and comeback
Manchester United restored their lead six minutes into the second half. Patrick Dorgu pounced on an error by Milan defender Filippo Terracciano as the Italian team tried to play out from the back, advancing one-on-one with Torriani before sliding his shot low under the goalkeeper.
Milan produced an immediate response just a few minutes later. Chukwueze broke down the right flank and delivered a low ball to Cisse, who was left unmarked inside the penalty area to finish into the net and make it 2-2.
The Italian club took the lead for the first time in the 68th minute. Chukwueze turned provider once again, swinging in a precise cross from the right wing for Ramos to head past the goalkeeper and put Milan ahead 3-2.
Pre-season conclusion and season openers
Milan capped off the win in the closing minutes of the game. Ramos controlled the ball in the attacking half and slipped a clever through-ball to Loftus-Cheek, who drove into the penalty box and finished into the corner to seal the victory.
AC Milan, seven-time European Cup winners based in Lombardy, and Manchester United, 20-time English champions, staged the match at the 44,000-capacity Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, southwestern Poland, as both managers finalized their squads for the upcoming season.
Both clubs now turn their attention to their domestic league openers. AC Milan begin their Serie A campaign next Sunday, August 23, against Torino, while Manchester United open their Premier League season on Saturday, August 22, against Hull City.
