AEK Athens take the field at a packed Allwyn Arena tonight with qualification for the UEFA Champions League league phase and a guaranteed 18.62 million euros in basic participation prize money on the line.
A victory tonight will secure the Greek club a lucrative spot in Europe's top competition, providing both sporting prestige and a major financial boost to the team's treasury.
In addition to the initial entry fee, UEFA will award performance bonuses throughout the league phase. Clubs will earn 2.1 million euros for every victory and 700,000 euros for each draw during the initial stage.
AEK can also collect an estimated 3 million euros from the Value Pillar mechanism. This financial distribution system replaced the former market pool and coefficient revenue allocations for participating clubs.
League ranking bonuses
Teams competing in the 36-club league phase will earn additional money based on their final standings in the league table. UEFA divides the ranking pool into shares valued at 275,000 euros each.
The team finishing in first place will receive 36 shares totaling 9.9 million euros. The club finishing in 24th position will collect 13 shares worth 3.575 million euros, while the bottom club in 36th place receives one share of 275,000 euros.
AEK Athens are one of Greece's leading football clubs and regularly compete in European tournaments. The UEFA Champions League features the highest level of European club competition, offering substantial financial rewards to participants.
Knockout stage prize money
Substantial earnings remain available if AEK advance beyond the league phase into the knockout rounds. Reaching the knockout playoffs earns clubs an extra 1 million euros, while progression to the round of 16 brings an 11 million euro payout.
Clubs reaching the quarter finals receive 12.5 million euros, with semi-finalists earning 15 million euros. The two teams competing in the final receive 18.5 million euros each, with the eventual Champions League winner awarded an additional 6.5 million euros in prize money.
