Former Hungary international footballer Ákos Buzsáky has been declared missing by authorities in Hungary after disappearing on August 18. According to Hungarian newspaper Blikk, the 44-year-old former midfielder has not been seen since that date.
Local media reports stated that details surrounding the circumstances of the former central midfielder's disappearance remain extremely scarce. The identity of the person who initially reported the case to police is still unknown, while Buzsáky's own father only learned of his son's disappearance after reading about it in newspaper reports.
Police have taken a statement from Buzsáky's former partner, who is the mother of his two children. She assured officers during her testimony that she has no information regarding his possible whereabouts.
Career in Portugal and England
Buzsáky first arrived in Portuguese football during the 2002/03 season, signing for FC Porto from Hungarian side MTK Budapest with a reputation as a promising young prospect. However, he struggled to break into the first team at the Northern Portuguese club, making just four senior appearances alongside 25 games for Porto's B team, where he scored three goals.
The following season, Buzsáky was sent on loan to fellow Portuguese top-flight side Académica de Coimbra, where he made 13 appearances. He returned to Porto for the 2004/05 campaign but spent only half a season back with the club's B team before moving abroad.
Midway through the 2004/05 season, Buzsáky moved to England to sign for Plymouth Argyle, marking the start of a period in which he spent the majority of his playing career in English football. After four years with Plymouth, he joined West London club Queens Park Rangers, where he enjoyed the finest years of his career.
Buzsáky later returned to his native country to play for Hungarian club Ferencváros before officially retiring from professional football at the end of the 2014/15 season.
