Alianza Lima have slipped from the top of Peru's Torneo Clausura standings following a draw against Melgar in Arequipa.
The result leaves the Lima club, coached by Pablo Guede, in third place with 12 points from six matches, trailing co-leaders Deportivo Garcilaso and Universitario de Deportes by a single point.
Despite the slip in the standings, Alianza Lima retain a strong position in the overall title race after winning the Torneo Apertura earlier in the campaign. That victory guarantees them the primary option to compete for the national championship title. However, with six matches completed in the Clausura, Guede's side have little margin for error if they wish to secure the title directly.
Liga 1 is the top tier of Peruvian professional football, split into the Apertura and Clausura tournaments. Alianza Lima, based in the La Victoria district of the capital, are one of the most historic clubs in Peruvian football and have suffered only one defeat across the entire 2026 season.
Remaining Fixtures and High Altitude Challenges
Alianza Lima face a demanding schedule over their remaining 11 matches of the tournament. The fixture list includes crucial home and away derbies against fellow title contenders Universitario de Deportes and Sporting Cristal.
