Allen Robinson II has announced his retirement from the NFL after 11 seasons in professional football, stepping away on his 33rd birthday.
The veteran wide receiver confirmed his decision on Monday in a post on Instagram, coming just weeks before the start of the new NFL season.
Robinson wrote on Instagram: "As I reflect on another year of life, I find myself especially grateful; not just for where I am, but for the journey that brought me here. This birthday feels a little different. It marks not only another year, but the beginning of a new chapter."
He added: "To every love story, there comes a final chapter. Football gave me more than I ever could’ve imagined. It challenged me, shaped me, humbled me, and rewarded me in ways I’ll carry for the rest of my life."
"I came, I saw, I conquered and I leave with nothing but gratitude," Robinson wrote. "The memories, the relationships, the victories, the lessons, they’ll stay with me forever! Thank you for every moment, every cheer, every lesson, and every opportunity."
Career highlights with Jacksonville and Chicago
Robinson entered the league when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He spent three full seasons playing in Florida, establishing himself as a top target.
His breakout campaign came during the 2015 season, when he earned a Pro Bowl selection after recording career highs of 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. A knee injury later disrupted his 2017 season, leading to his departure from Jacksonville.
In 2018, Robinson signed a three-year contract worth $42 million with the Chicago Bears. He spent four seasons in Chicago, setting a personal career high with 102 receptions during the 2020 season.
Later seasons across the league
Following his tenure in Chicago, Robinson joined the Los Angeles Rams in March 2022 on a three-year, $46.5 million deal. The Rams signed him months after winning the Super Bowl to give quarterback Matthew Stafford another passing weapon alongside Cooper Kupp.
However, Robinson made just 10 appearances in his first season in Los Angeles as he struggled to stay healthy and the Rams failed to defend their championship title.
In April 2023, the Rams traded Robinson to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in all 17 regular season games for Pittsburgh before being released.
Robinson had a stint with the New York Giants in 2024 before being picked up by the Detroit Lions in time for the start of the season, appearing in 12 games for Detroit.
After sitting out the entire 2025 season, Robinson announced on his 33rd birthday that he is walking away from football for good.
