Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga was stretchered off during a Saturday night friendly against Valencia at Mestalla Stadium after a high tackle from Jose Luis Gaya. The Valencia captain was shown a straight red card for the high lunge, which caught Elanga on the shin right in front of the dugouts.

The red card sparked a mass brawl as Newcastle players emptied the bench and clashed with Valencia players and staff. Elanga was left writhing in agony on the turf and received lengthy treatment to his right leg before leaving the field on a stretcher in clear distress.

The 24-year-old Swede had been Newcastle's best player up to that point. His departure marked a sour end to the first half for new boss Matthias Jaissle, whose team trailed 1-0 at the interval.
