Arsenal officially signed midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United on Saturday, agreeing a four-year contract with the option of a fifth year.
According to English media, the Premier League champions paid £75 million (87 million euros) for the 28-year-old Brazilian, who set up four goals at the 2026 World Cup.
He joins an already crowded Arsenal midfield featuring Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Martín Zubimendi. Guimarães said Newcastle meant enormously to him, but that he wanted to experience something new. He had led the Magpies to their first trophy in 70 years by winning the League Cup in 2025.
He said he had reached a point in his life where he needed a challenge like this one, adding that he wants to win trophies, make history, and believes he is in the right place to do it.
Record summer spending
Guimarães could add to his trophy haul as soon as August 16, in the Community Shield against Manchester City. The transfer is the fifth-biggest in England this summer, behind Tottenham Hotspur's 98 million euros for Mateus Fernandes and 115 million for Sandro Tonali, Chelsea's 137 million for Morgan Rogers, and Manchester City's 136 million for Elliot Anderson. Premier League clubs have already spent close to 2 billion euros this summer, and last year's record of 3.4 billion could fall before September 1.
