Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has promised the club's transfer plans will become "very concrete" soon as the Premier League champions pursue a marquee signing.
The Gunners ended a 22-year wait for the title last season after three consecutive runners-up finishes. So far this summer, Christos Tzolis arrived for £36 million, Illan Meslier joined on a free transfer, and Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent.
Arsenal are pursuing a move for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior if the Brazilian opts against extending his contract at the club. The north London side also retain interest in Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and remain determined to sign Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
"A lot is happening," Arteta said. "We know that we want to take this club to a different level. That is going to require a better squad, better individuals. Hopefully very soon we can start to put things in a very concrete way."
The manager added that excellence must be Arsenal's standard and that the club must "take this football club to a different dimension."
The squad is in Girona for a pre-season friendly on Saturday; Christian Norgaard is unlikely to feature after picking up an injury.
