Atlético-MG and Santos secured spots in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals with 1-0 victories on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Atlético-MG defeated Juventude in Caxias do Sul thanks to a goal from Minda at 49 minutes into the second half, following a 0-0 draw in their first match.
Santos also advanced by defeating Remo 1-0 in Belém with a goal scored by Rony. Their first-leg match had ended in a scoreless draw at Vila Belmiro.
All eight teams competing for the largest prize money in Brazilian football will be known by Thursday, Aug. 6. The Confederação Brasileira de Futebol has not yet announced the date for the draw that will determine the quarterfinal matchups and the bracket for subsequent rounds. The final will be decided in a single match for the first time starting in this edition on Dec. 6.
