Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro got into a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The incident took place at a practice court in Las Vegas and reportedly ended with a furious Adebayo striking his former Miami Heat teammate in the face area.
Adebayo reportedly approached Herro at the practice facility inside a Las Vegas hotel on Friday morning to confront him about comments Herro made after leaving Miami. It is unclear what was said between the two or how the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation.
Herro was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo late last month, ending a seven-year run alongside Adebayo in Miami. Herro criticized Adebayo in social media posts following the trade.
Trade details and Herro's social media posts
The Bucks agreed to trade Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat in exchange for Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and three first-round picks. Miami also gave up a pick swap in 2030 and a second-round pick in 2033.
After the trade, Herro posted a graphic to his Instagram story showing the NBA's worst field-goal percentages from midrange, featuring both Antetokounmpo and Adebayo. The graphic showed Antetokounmpo with the worst rate at 26.8 percent and Adebayo 10th worst at 35.9 percent, seemingly suggesting the pair would not boost Miami's chances next season. Leaked Instagram direct messages also appeared to show Herro taking shots at Adebayo.
The Miami Heat declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail. The Milwaukee Bucks did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Summer League meeting in Las Vegas
The Heat and Bucks faced each other in NBA Summer League action later Friday afternoon, with all players involved in the trade except Antetokounmpo in attendance. Herro, along with Jaquez Jr., Jakucionis and Ware, joined their team inside UNLV's Thomas and Mack Center for the game.
Herro sat courtside opposite the Bucks bench but did not play in the game.
Herro downplays any bad blood
Despite the reported altercation with Adebayo, Herro said there was no bad blood between himself and the Heat. Speaking during an appearance on Prime during Friday's game, Herro said, "It's all love in Miami. I've seen a couple of the guys, coaching staff. Chris Quinn, Spo. We're all good in Miami, and an opportunity for both sides to reset and get a fresh start. We're both super happy for this."
Herro added, "I mean, it's part of the business. A place like in Miami, and organization like Miami, they wanted championships, they play for championships, and it's part of the business. I know how good I am, and what I'm capable of. And I just got to continue to keep working and try to stay healthy and just represent this new team how I'm supposed to."
