Barcelona Raise Rodri Bid Closer to Manchester City's Price

FC Barcelona have made a second offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez, known as Rodri, as negotiations continue over a transfer that had initially seemed headed toward Real Madrid.

Barcelona's first offer, worth 45 million euros, was rejected by Manchester City. British media reported that the club led by president Joan Laporta has now presented a new proposal.

Sources in England had made clear that City would not let Rodri leave for less than around 70 million pounds. That first Barcelona offer was doomed from the start and was dismissed early in the talks, though conversations between the two clubs have not stopped. Neither side wants to delay a process both appear to want to complete.

A significant increase

English media have revealed the financial details of Barcelona's new attempt. The club is prepared to pay 65 million euros, plus another 5 million euros in variables, a substantial effort that still falls slightly short of the 70 million pounds City are demanding.

Manchester City are now expected to show some flexibility on their financial demands.

Rodri's preference

Barcelona are confident of reaching an agreement, having already settled personal terms with Rodri, who wants to join the Catalan club and has said Barcelona is his preferred destination despite interest from Real Madrid.

Barcelona believe the negotiation is progressing well. The club could also receive additional funds partly through the loan of Ronald Araujo to Liverpool, and this second offer to Manchester City could be the one that closes the deal in the coming hours or days.
