Ben Simmons is training without any physical restrictions and plans to return to the NBA, according to a report. The 30-year-old point guard is taking part in a private minicamp organized by players from Australia's men's national basketball team in Melbourne.
A three-time All-Star, Simmons did not play in the 2025/26 season while recovering from back problems and other injuries that have disrupted his career. His last NBA game came with the Los Angeles Clippers in March 2025.
Interest from NBA teams
Several NBA teams have shown interest in Simmons, the report said. He is reportedly willing to sign for the league's minimum salary, and a source told ESPN he already has a non-guaranteed offer from a Western Conference team.
Beyond seeking a new NBA opportunity, Simmons hopes to compete for Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He had been training mainly in Miami, where he lives, but traveled on his own to Melbourne for this week's minicamp.
From No. 1 pick to injury setbacks
The Philadelphia 76ers selected Simmons with the first overall pick in the 2016 draft after his season at LSU. He debuted the following year and was named Rookie of the Year for 2017/18.
Simmons made three All-Star teams and was twice named to the NBA's All-Defensive team before injuries slowed his career. He has not played more than 58 games in a season since 2018/19.
In 383 NBA games, 344 of them starts, Simmons averages 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals. He has played for the 76ers, the Brooklyn Nets and the Clippers.
