Benfica submitted a petition to the Assembly of the Republic on Friday seeking to suspend and review the centralized commercialization model for audiovisual rights.
Benfica president Rui Costa is listed as the primary signatory of the parliamentary submission. The document proposes that the share capital of the entity responsible for centralizing television rights remain under the exclusive ownership and control of professional clubs.
Club Ownership and Private Investment Risks
The club stated that it introduced the petition to avoid an Infantino-style move in Portuguese football broadcasting. Benfica also warned against the potential risks associated with the entry of private investors into the television rights structure.
