Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will get little chance to rest this season. After a grueling stretch of games, Fever head coach Stephanie White said the team would take a few days off before returning to work, but for Clark the break will be even shorter because she already has a commitment lined up with the United States national team.
Speaking after the Fever's game against the Chicago Sky, White praised her players' effort during a long road trip and said the group would use a few days to recover.
White said they would have a few days off, calling it an exhausting trip and noting the team had made a nice little tour around the country.
Fever eye Friday matchup
White said the plan was to rest for a few days before immediately shifting focus to the Fever's next game, scheduled for Friday, August 28. She said the team would rest a little, take a few days off, and then get back to work, adding that they were not on vacation yet and needed to prepare for Friday's game.
Sitting beside her coach during the press conference, Clark joked about her own situation, noting that her schedule would be even tighter because of her commitment to the U.S. national team. Clark, a three-time WNBA All-Star, said with humor that they did not get a break, adding that they were grateful for it.
White played along and summed up her star player's next destination in one line: they were headed to Berlin.
From Indiana to Team USA
Clark is expected to be one of the key players for the United States in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. She arrives at the tournament in strong form after being named MVP of the World Cup qualifying tournament held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in March.
The U.S. national team is in Group D of the competition alongside the Czech Republic, Italy and China. The Americans open the tournament on September 3 against China.
