Celtic winger Camilo Duran delivered an exceptional performance as the Scottish Champions defeated Dundee United 4-0 in the Premier Sports Cup at Tannadice on Saturday.

The Colombian international scored Celtic's second goal of the afternoon and created major problems for the host defence alongside Swedish playmaker Benjamin Nygren.

While Nygren dominated much of the attention during his 67 minutes on the pitch, Celtic manager Martin O'Neill highlighted Duran for special praise after the final whistle.

"I thought (Camilo) Duran's was an exceptional performance," O'Neill said. "He is a really good player. He was terrific."

Duran celebrated his goal by lifting his shirt to reveal a hand-written message reading "Fuerza Colombia" in support of victims of last week's earthquake in western Colombia. The disaster has claimed around 300 lives in his homeland.

The summer arrival also wore shamrock earrings and displayed a wide smile as Celtic took control of the tie at Tannadice Park in Dundee.

O'Neill compares winger to Daizen Maeda

Duran operated on the right flank despite being naturally left-footed. O'Neill previously noted during pre-season, following a goal in a friendly defeat against Sporting Lisbon, that the winger reminded him of Celtic forward Daizen Maeda due to his relentless work rate and pressing.

Beyond his goalscoring, Duran demonstrated his creative capacity late in the first half at Tannadice. He delivered a chipped pass to the far post for striker Kasper Hogh, who sent a first-time volley wide of the target.

Hogh approached Duran as the players walked off at the interval to offer what appeared to be an apology for failing to convert the opportunity.

Duran already recorded an assist during Celtic's resounding league victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park earlier this season, showcasing his ability to craft chances from wide areas.

Summer signing background at Qarabag

Celtic signed Duran in the summer transfer window following a standout campaign with Azerbaijani champions Qarabag FK. Although he played primarily as a central striker in Baku, he scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions.

Five of those goals came in the UEFA Champions League against high-profile opposition, including Benfica, Ajax, Newcastle United, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Duran spent just one season in the Azerbaijani top flight after previously playing in the Portuguese second tier for Portimonense SC. His rapid progression demonstrates versatility across multiple attacking positions.

Benjamin Nygren shines in midfield role

Benjamin Nygren produced an outstanding display behind the main striker before being substituted after 67 minutes. The 25-year-old Swede scored the goal of the match to make it 4-0, set up goals for Auston Trusty and Sebastian Tounekti, and provided the defence-splitting pass that created Duran's goal.

The former Nordsjaelland player has recorded three goals and three assists in his first three appearances this season. Nygren scored 21 goals for Celtic last season and remains a central figure in O'Neill's attacking structure.

Speculation regarding a move to an English club has cooled following noise last month. Nygren previously admitted during World Cup duties with Sweden that he desires to play at the highest level possible, but no major offers have emerged.

Kasper Hogh leads Celtic attack

Danish forward Kasper Hogh led the line following his £11 million summer transfer. With his larger-than-life character and trademark man-bun, the striker provided a physical presence, held up play, and linked effectively with team-mates despite missing scoring opportunities.

Nygren spoke after the match about the strong relationship he is building with Hogh, which worked to great effect in Celtic's attacking combinations.

Dundee United created moments of threat despite the heavy scoreline, hitting the frame of the goal an incredible five times during the contest. The defensive warnings indicated areas needing attention elsewhere in the team.

Transfer targets and upcoming European play-off

Celtic continue to explore transfer options before the window closes, with rumors intensifying over Hajduk Split defensive midfielder Niko Sigur as O'Neill seeks reinforcements.

O'Neill boasts strong depth in attack, with Haissem Hassan making a second-half cameo appearance on the right wing. Sebastian Tounekti impressed during his outing, while Jota, Yang Hyun-jun, Callum Osmand, and James Forrest provide additional competition.

Celtic now prepare for European competition on Wednesday night. They host Austrian side LASK at Parkhead in the home first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off.
