Carabao Cup draw: Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle learn ties

Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle discovered their Carabao Cup second-round opponents as 11 Premier League clubs entered Monday's draw.

Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United learned their Carabao Cup second-round opponents on Monday, as 11 Premier League clubs entered the competition. Chelsea will host Luton Town, Tottenham face Charlton Athletic, and Newcastle take on West Bromwich Albion.



The draw took place at around 7.20pm BST, during the build-up to Plymouth Argyle's first-round tie against Exeter City, the last match of round one. It was split into northern and southern sections, with all second-round ties due to be played in the week commencing 24 August 2026.

The 11 top-flight clubs entering at this stage were those not involved in European competition this season: Brentford, Chelsea, Fulham, Newcastle, Everton, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City.

Premier League ties

  • Birmingham City vs Brentford
  • Chelsea vs Luton Town
  • Plymouth Argyle/Exeter City vs Coventry City
  • Fulham vs AFC Wimbledon
  • Ipswich Town vs Leicester City
  • Tottenham Hotspur vs Charlton Athletic
  • Preston North End vs Everton
  • Stoke City vs Hull City
  • Newcastle United vs West Bromwich Albion
  • Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United



The Forest-Leeds tie was the only all-Premier League pairing in the round, offering an early look at Oliver Glasner's Forest side given his record in cup competitions with Crystal Palace. Southampton's draw against West Ham United was also picked out as a tight contest, while AFC Wimbledon face a short trip across the river to play Fulham.

Northern and southern sections

The rest of the northern section paired Blackburn Rovers with Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers with Middlesbrough, Barnsley with Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool with Lincoln City, Sheffield Wednesday with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bradford City with Burnley, and Fleetwood Town with Shrewsbury Town.

In the southern section, Walsall face Leyton Orient, Cardiff City play Norwich City, Stevenage meet Reading, Cambridge United face Millwall, Southampton play West Ham, and Watford take on Peterborough.

Key dates for the diary

Round three ties are scheduled for the weeks commencing 7 and 14 September 2026, round four for the week of 26 October, and round five for 14 December. Semi-final first legs are set for the week commencing 11 January 2027, with second legs the week of 1 February 2027. The final will be played on Sunday, 21 March 2027.
