Charles Barkley Reveals He Skipped Swift-Kelce Wedding

Charles Barkley says he declined an invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Madison Square Garden wedding, calling it 'too much' hassle.

Charles Barkley has revealed he turned down an invitation to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden, where the couple celebrated in front of 1,000 guests last Friday.

The 63-year-old NBA Hall of Famer and Inside the NBA analyst said on the podcast Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo that he received an invite but declined it. "I did get an invite and I politely declined 'cause I thought it was gonna be a c**p show," Barkley said.

"I love Travis and Jason and I've only met Taylor one time. But yeah, I did get an invite but I said, 'Hey, you know what, that's just too much.' I just want to hang out and play golf and I don't want to dress up and all that other stuff," he said. "But I appreciate the invitation, it was pretty special."

Barkley's response stood out. The wedding celebration shut down streets around Madison Square Garden and drew an A-list crowd from Hollywood, music, fashion and sports.

NFL stars pack the guest list

A host of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates made the guestlist. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, former Chiefs star Mecole Hardman, Las Vegas Raiders tight end coach Luke Steckel, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp and NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield also received invites. NFL sideline reporters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson, who are credited with playing matchmaker for the couple, were also spotted heading to the venue.

Demand for an invite reportedly sparked tension within Kelce's inner circle. After Thursday night's more intimate rehearsal dinner, also held at Madison Square Garden but limited to 100 guests, the Daily Mail reported that some of Kelce's NFL friends were left upset. A source said not everyone on the team had the same invite, with certain players disappointed to learn they were left out of Thursday's dinner and only asked to Friday's larger event.

Meanwhile, Taylor Lewan was shocked by Kelce snubbing him from his wedding to Swift

Former teammates say they were snubbed

On Monday, former NFL players turned podcasters Taylor Lewan and Will Compton publicly said they had not been invited to Friday's wedding at all. Compton said he was "flabbergasted," while Lewan wondered whether the exclusion was "a personal shot" from Kelce.

A Chiefs player told the Daily Mail that the wedding invite list caused chaos in the team's locker room, with the apparent decision to leave out kicker Harrison Butker fueling pointed text exchanges in group chats among teammates.

Butker, a devout Catholic and outspoken Trump supporter who has won three Super Bowls alongside Kelce, delivered a widely criticized commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas in 2024, calling pride month "a deadly sin" and suggesting women might prioritize being a "homemaker" over a career.
