Chelsea have finalized an agreement to sell striker Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest for £50million following a single season at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old forward is set to depart after the London club accepted a deal structured as £45million upfront with a further £5million in potential add-ons, ensuring a substantial profit for the Blues.

Delap moved to West London last summer when Chelsea activated his £30million release clause at Ipswich Town. However, he struggled to establish himself in the side, managing just one Premier League goal in 28 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign, and scoring twice in 41 games across all competitions.

The former Ipswich forward was left out of the matchday squad for Chelsea's opening 3-2 victory over Fulham. He has been training away from head coach Xabi Alonso's core group at the club's Cobham training headquarters after being made available for transfer.

Attacking overhaul at Chelsea

Although Delap was eager to remain at Chelsea and fight for his place, he was deemed surplus to requirements during the summer window. His number 9 shirt was handed to striker Joao Pedro prior to the new season, with Joao Pedro established as the centerpiece of Chelsea's attack alongside new recruit Danny Welbeck, who arrived from Brighton, and forward Emmanuel Emegha.

Nicolas Jackson is also nearing a £65million move to Aston Villa from Chelsea

Delap is not the only high-profile forward set to leave Cobham. Senegalese international striker Nicolas Jackson has also been training separately from the main squad as Chelsea negotiate his departure.

Jackson is closing in on a £65million transfer to Aston Villa, a fee that would meet Chelsea's asking price for the 25-year-old. The forward is understood to be keen on a reunion with Villa manager Unai Emery, who previously coached him.

Further departures and Villa movements

Villa's pursuit of Jackson comes amid uncertainty surrounding Ollie Watkins, with the wantaway striker nearing a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, young forward Marc Guiu is also in line to leave Chelsea as part of the summer restructuring.

Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa all compete in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Chelsea play home matches at Stamford Bridge in London, Nottingham Forest operate out of the City Ground, and Aston Villa are based at Villa Park in Birmingham.
