Chelsea beat Fulham 3-2 in an entertaining Premier League match in West London as Xabi Alonso won his managerial debut against Álvaro Arbeloa.

Palmer extends Chelsea lead in second half
Arbeloa suffered another major blow four minutes into the second half when Chelsea struck again. Joao Pedro displayed excellent ball control inside the penalty area while the Fulham defense was caught out of position, holding off defenders before laying the ball off to Palmer.
Palmer arrived from deep and slotted his shot through the only available opening, squeezing the ball between Leno's legs to make it 3-1. The goal seemed to put Xabi Alonso's side in complete control of the derby.
Fulham refused to surrender and pulled a goal back following a mistake by Sánchez. The Chelsea goalkeeper made a poor central clearance, allowing Gonzalo to rise and head the ball into the net to open his Premier League scoring account.
It was a classic striker's goal that capped a tireless display from Gonzalo, confirming his quick adaptation to English football. Fellow countryman César Palacios also delivered an impressive performance in midfield for Fulham before being substituted in the final 15 minutes.
Late drama and touchline friendship
Fulham pushed aggressively for an equalizer in the closing stages and almost snatched a point. Antonee Robinson found himself one-on-one against Sánchez, but the left-back's attempted chip inexplicably flew wide of the target.
The match also featured a tense atmosphere surrounding Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, whose future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain. Fernández played the final 15 minutes of the match and was booed continuously by supporters during his warm-up, as he stepped onto the pitch, and throughout his time on the field.
Despite the high stakes on the pitch, attention was focused on the touchline relationship between Alonso and Arbeloa. The two managers shared a warm embrace and affectionate exchanges during the match, confirming their close personal friendship.
Before the match, Arbeloa revealed that he had spoken to Alonso a few days earlier, though they did not discuss football. He explained that both of their families were relocating to London and emphasized that while they remain very close friends, they would set that friendship aside for 90 minutes to compete fiercely for their respective clubs.
