Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to play again after an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency ended his four-year doping ban.
Mudryk was suspended after a 2024 test found a low concentration of meldonium, a prohibited substance. Changes to WADA procedures since mean the same result today would lead to no charges. The Football Association said no anti-doping rule violation would result, and confirmed that Mudryk had acknowledged the violations and accepted an ineligibility period equal to the time already served.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso said the club had not expected to receive such news at that moment, speaking after a pre-season friendly against Tottenham in Sydney. He said Chelsea was happy for Mudryk, who had trained alone every day throughout the ban, and described the experience as truly difficult.
Mudryk has not played since November 2024. He will join teammates in Hong Kong in the coming days for a friendly against Juventus on August 5. Alonso said the club wants him to feel integrated into the squad but acknowledged the player will need time.
