Colombia's national football league postponed matches scheduled for this week after a powerful earthquake struck the country on Monday, August 10, killing more than 110 people, according to a statement from Dimayor, the body that governs Colombian football.
Conmebol, South American football's governing body, also suspended matches set to be played in Colombia for the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Tolima and Independiente del Valle had been due to play Tuesday in Ibague for the Libertadores. Independiente Santa Fe and River Plate had been due to meet Wednesday in Bogota for the Sudamericana.
Earthquake's reach
The earthquake's epicenter was in western Colombia, and it was felt in major cities including Bogota, Medellin and Cali, home to some of the country's leading clubs. Cali and Pereira were among the cities hit hardest by the magnitude 7.4 tremor.
