Sporting have targeted 22-year-old defender Constantino Favasuli from Italian second division club Catanzaro, according to reports in the Italian press. The Portuguese team entered the race while the player was reported to be close to joining Napoli, who still appear ahead in the pursuit.
Catanzaro are asking for around eight million euros for the transfer of the full-back, who can operate on both the right and left sides of defense.
International record and statistics
Favasuli is an Italy Under-21 international and has earned two caps for the senior national team. Italy called him up in June alongside several young players, and he featured in matches against Luxembourg and Greece.
During the past season, the defender made 42 total appearances for Catanzaro, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
