Copa do Brasil to play first single-match final in Brasilia

The Copa do Brasil will conclude with a single-match final for the first time in its history on Sunday, December 6 in Brasilia.

The decisive match will take place at the Estadio Mane Garrincha, the federal capital arena selected to stage the showpiece. The Brazilian Football Confederation, the governing body known as the CBF, has not yet established an official kickoff time for the encounter.

The arrangement marks a historic milestone for the country's premier knockout tournament. In 38 editions of the Copa do Brasil, the champion has never been determined in a standalone fixture, with the title previously decided across traditional two-legged home-and-away ties.

Estadio Mane Garrincha is already accustomed to staging high-profile one-off deciders. The venue in the federal capital has served as the host ground for four editions of the Supercopa do Brasil, the annual match that pits the champions of the Brasileirao league against the winners of the Copa do Brasil.

Weekend semifinal deciders

The road to Brasilia will be settled this weekend as four teams compete for the two available places in the final. Atletico Mineiro take on Gremio on Saturday, November 7, at the Arena MRV at 6:00 p.m. Brasilia time.

Gremio enter the second leg holding the upper hand in the tie. The club from Rio Grande do Sul built a solid foundation during the first meeting, securing a 2-0 victory at the Arena do Gremio to establish a two-goal cushion.

The remaining finalist will be confirmed on Sunday, November 8, when Vasco da Gama face Palmeiras in Rio de Janeiro. That second leg is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. at the Estadio Sao Januario.

Palmeiras travel to the coast carrying a slim advantage after winning the opening match 1-0 at Nubank Parque. Vasco must overturn the one-goal deficit on home ground if they are to prevent the Sao Paulo side from securing the final ticket to Brasilia.
