Corinthians fans, led by the Gaviões da Fiel supporters' group, greeted the team's players outside Neo Química Arena in São Paulo on Thursday, August 6. The gathering took place about two hours before Corinthians faced Internacional in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16.
Fans brought flags, flares and fireworks, and sang chants of encouragement. The gathering formed at Gate E1 of Neo Química Arena, along Radial Leste avenue.
In a statement, Gaviões da Fiel said the goal was to make every player feel the fans' support and understand it was a night of war even before stepping onto the pitch at Neo Química Arena.
What Corinthians needs to advance
Corinthians faces a difficult task. In the first leg at Beira-Rio, the team led by coach Fernando Diniz lost 2-0, with goals from Matheus Bahia and Alan Patrick.
To secure qualification within regulation time, Corinthians needs to win by three goals or more. A two-goal victory would send the tie to a penalty shootout.
Internacional, meanwhile, advances with a simple draw in Thursday's match in São Paulo.
