Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is a doubt for Thursday's UEFA Nations League match against Denmark as the national squad prepares for its final training session at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Wednesday.
The team will train at 18:00 local time (17:00 Lisbon time), with the first 15 minutes open to media representatives ahead of the Group A4 fixture.
National team manager Jorge Jesus and an as-yet-unnamed player are scheduled to address journalists at a press conference at Parken Stadium at 17:00 local time (16:00 Lisbon time) on Wednesday. Thursday's match between Denmark and Portugal will kick off at 20:45 local time (19:45 Lisbon time), with Ukrainian referee Mykola Balakin assigned to officiate.
Ronaldo gym session in Sweden
On Tuesday, Ronaldo was present at Eleda Stadion in Malmo, Sweden, where Portugal set up camp prior to traveling to Denmark, but he did not participate in training on the pitch with his teammates.
While the training session was still underway in Sweden's third largest city, the captain left the stadium and returned to the team hotel to complete work in the gym.
Two other Portuguese players missed Tuesday's session in Malmo. Forward João Félix engaged in recovery work, while Francisco Conceição was absent due to injury.
Oslo benching and tactical dilemma
Ronaldo's physical uncertainty follows a disappointing outing on Sunday in Oslo, where he remained an unused substitute on the bench during Portugal's 2-1 victory over Norway in matchday two.
Immediately after the final whistle in Oslo, Ronaldo walked off the pitch visibly dissatisfied without joining his teammates to thank the Portuguese supporters present in the stadium.
Manager Jorge Jesus now faces a difficult tactical decision against Denmark. Reintegrating Ronaldo into the starting lineup would force the manager to break up the attacking partnership of João Félix and Gonçalo Ramos, who performed exceptionally well in Oslo and scored both Portuguese goals.
Nations League Group A4 standings
Portugal currently tops Group A4 with six points from two matches. Denmark and Norway are tied for second place with three points each, while Wales is bottom of the group with zero points.
The UEFA Nations League is UEFA's biennial international tournament for European national teams. Portugal, winners of the inaugural competition in 2019, are seeking to maintain their perfect start in the group stage to secure progress to the final rounds.
