Cruzeiro retains Copa do Brasil record as Corinthians exit

Reigning Copa do Brasil champion Corinthians was eliminated from the tournament on Thursday, August 6, after losing on aggregate to Internacional in the round of 16. Corinthians won the second leg 2-1, but failed to advance following a 2-0 defeat in Porto Alegre.

The defeat ends Corinthians' chance to win consecutive titles. With the elimination, Cruzeiro remains the only club to win the Copa do Brasil in two consecutive years.

Cruzeiro Historic Record

Cruzeiro claimed back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. The team won the 2017 final against Flamengo on penalties, then secured the 2018 trophy against Corinthians with a victory in São Paulo. Flamengo came closest to matching the feat, winning in 2022 before losing the 2023 final.

Cruzeiro is the most successful club in the tournament with six titles. Coached by Artur Jorge, the team remains alive in this year's competition, reaching the quarter-finals after eliminating Chapecoense, and is awaiting the draw for its next opponent.
