Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has promised another major signing in attack, saying the club's summer transfer work is only 60 per cent complete despite spending £237 million.
Spurs have broken their transfer record twice this window, signing Sandro Tonali for £100 million, Mateus Fernandes for £85 million and Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million. Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have also arrived on free transfers, as the club looks to recover from back-to-back 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League.
De Zerbi, who described himself as a "shark" in the market, said another "bomba" signing was in the works. "The transfer market, it's not finished for sure, but we completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market," he said. "Now we have another bomba."
The "bomba" is not believed to refer to Manchester City winger Savinho, who Spurs are separately trying to sign.
De Zerbi said his remaining targets are in attack. "I normally don't love working with plan A, plan B, plan C," he said. "It's plan A, then stop. Because the players are not the same. There are not two players the same."
The manager also addressed several players keen to leave. Djed Spence, who had a breakout summer for England at the World Cup, has spoken to De Zerbi about departing. Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Lucas Bergvall are among others who want to go.
De Zerbi said he held individual meetings with players in April and was direct about the terms. "Yes, help me to stay up, and then I help you to leave. If you don't help me to stay up, you stay underwater with me," he said of his message to Romero and Vicario.
He praised Romero's conduct throughout, calling him "unbelievable" and "Top," and rejected suggestions the defender had asked to leave early to prepare for Argentina's World Cup campaign.
His message to all unsettled players was the same. "I would like you to stay, not I want you to stay," De Zerbi said. "If you don't want to stay, if you want to leave, you have to leave."
