The Football Association (FA) of England is preparing to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino's re-election as FIFA president, according to Sky News.
Sky News reported that the FA is getting ready to send FIFA a letter formally withdrawing its backing for Infantino's candidacy for a new term as president of world football's governing body.
Wales moved first
England's move follows Wales. The Football Association of Wales became the first national federation to formally withdraw its support for the FIFA president, in what was described as an effort to push him out of the organization's leadership.
The $20 billion plan
The developments follow FIFA's confirmation last Tuesday that Infantino wanted to create a new subsidiary company, valued at $20 billion, and sell more than 20% of the new entity, named FIFA Forward Enterprise, in an attempt to raise $4.2 billion from private investors.
The plan triggered strong reactions from continental football confederations, national federations and senior FIFA officials. Infantino was forced to abandon it just days later.
