Micael Leandro da Silva, a 15-year-old footballer who once played in São Paulo Futebol Clube's youth ranks, was shot dead on Saturday, August 1, 2026, while playing a match in Maceió, Alagoas. He was killed by mistake, according to reports.
He was taken to the Hospital Geral do Estado but did not survive.
Club Reactions
Micael was playing for CSA, or Centro Sportivo Alagoano, at the time of his death. The club said in a statement that it deeply regretted the death of the young player, who was part of Azulão's under-15 squad, and offered solidarity to his friends and family. CSA said it hoped the relevant authorities would investigate the case to solve what it called such a brutal crime.
São Paulo also issued a statement expressing sadness over Micael's death. The club said he joined its ranks in the second half of last year and stayed until April this year, playing for the under-14 and under-15 categories in Cotia. During that time, he won the 2026 Copa Fictor under-15 tournament. São Paulo said it stood in solidarity with his family and friends during this moment of deep pain.
Investigation Underway
The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between factions linked to drug trafficking. CNN said it had contacted Alagoas' Polícia Científica, Polícia Civil and the hospital that treated the player, and was awaiting a response.
