Sporting Clube de Portugal drew 1-1 away to Famalicão in matchday six of Portugal's Primeira Liga, a result that left the Lisbon club four points behind leaders FC Porto.
Colombian forward Luis Suárez put Sporting ahead in the 81st minute, converting a penalty for his fifth league goal of the season. But Famalicão equalised in stoppage time through an own goal from Gonçalo Inácio, even though the home side had already been reduced to 10 men.
The penalty was awarded in the 78th minute after Fotis Ioannidis was fouled inside the box, a decision Famalicão's players protested.
Famalicão's Romeo Beney was sent off in the 88th minute with a direct red card. In first-half stoppage time added at the other end of the match, in the 90+1st minute, Abubakar headed towards goal and Inácio, attempting to clear the danger, turned the ball into his own net.
Sporting's league position
The draw was only Sporting's second of the season, after a 2-2 result away to Estrela da Amadora in the opening round, and ended a run of four straight wins. Sporting remain third with 14 points, level with fourth-placed Santa Clara, two points behind second-placed Benfica and four points behind leaders and defending champions FC Porto.
Famalicão remain without a win this season but moved provisionally up to 12th place with four points.
Cards and late chances
Suárez was booked in the 86th minute. Famalicão's coach was shown a yellow card in the 80th minute, and midfielder Sorriso was booked two minutes later, in the 78th minute. Sporting substitute Irankunda was also cautioned in the 90th minute for holding Bondo.
Famalicão's Óscar Aranda struck the post with a direct free kick from outside the area in the 85th minute.
Sporting had further late chances to add to their lead. Suárez had a left-footed shot saved in the 90+3rd minute, set up by Silas Andersen, and missed another effort from inside the area two minutes later, assisted by Ioannidis. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Irankunda crossed from the right for Ioannidis, who headed over the bar in what proved to be Sporting's last chance of the match.
Substitutions
Sporting made several changes in the second half. Silas Andersen replaced Issa Doumbia in the 75th minute, and Irankunda came on for Geny Catamo a minute later. Earlier, in the 64th minute, Fotis Ioannidis had replaced Flávio Gonçalves and Rodrigo Zalazar had come on for Luís Guilherme.
Famalicão brought on Romeo Beney for Gil Dias at the start of the second half. Umar Abubakar replaced Koutsias in the 61st minute, before Patricio Salas came on for Marcos Peña in the 82nd minute and Aranda replaced Sorriso a minute later.
First-half action
Sporting created the better chances in the first half. Luís Guilherme had an early shot saved by goalkeeper Carevic in the 12th minute, and a follow-up move involving Suárez was also kept out. Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva made a crucial save to deny a Sorriso header in the 41st minute, helping keep the score goalless at the interval. Gil Dias was booked in first-half stoppage time for pushing Flávio Gonçalves.
