The day before his planned trip to New York, UEFA filed court documents across several US states seeking evidence to support potential criminal mismanagement proceedings in Switzerland concerning Infantino's World Cup sell-off proposal.
UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations, acts as the administrative authority for football in Europe. Based in Nyon, Switzerland, the organization represents 55 national football associations and runs major continental club and international competitions.
Uncertainty also surrounds the movements of Infantino's private jet earlier in the week. On Tuesday, the aircraft flew from Paris, where Infantino attended the Esports World Cup, to the Spanish island of Majorca for a few hours. The jet then travelled to Pisa in Italy for approximately seven hours before flying Infantino to Hanoi for the ASEAN Cup final. Inside Sport noted that Josh Kushner, the brother of former US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner who is heavily implicated in the scandal, has previously holidayed in Majorca. Infantino maintains a personal residence in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Qatari authorities appear to be balancing their diplomatic support for Infantino with ongoing efforts to build goodwill with the International Olympic Committee. Qatar is seeking to secure hosting rights for the 2036 Summer Olympic Games.
