Small forward Jaylen Brown was officially introduced by the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday following his trade from the Boston Celtics. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP stated that seeking victories rather than individual statistics will be the primary objective of his time in Philadelphia.
Brown joins a star-studded roster that includes LeBron James, who signed during the offseason after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. The squad also features center Joel Embiid, point guard Tyrese Maxey, and young player VJ Edgecombe. Facing a group of players accustomed to leading offenses, Brown said he is prepared to adapt his play style to help win another championship.
He emphasized that his focus is entirely on winning during every practice, meeting, film session, and shot. Brown added that he is willing to play a different role if necessary, stating that nothing else motivates him at this stage of his career.
Star Roster and Season Challenges
Brown concluded a ten-season tenure with the Boston Celtics, where he won one NBA title. Throughout his career, he has averaged 20 points per game, coming off his strongest offensive season in 2025-26 when he averaged over 28 points per game.
Although he noted that the 76ers look excellent on paper, Brown warned that team quality on paper means nothing. He highlighted potential challenges throughout the season, including distractions, personality conflicts, and external pressure, adding that success will depend on work, transparency, and leadership.
Working With LeBron James and Leaving Boston
When asked about leadership hierarchy on a team featuring LeBron James, Brown dismissed discussions about who leads the team. He said the group needs an environment built on mutual respect and hard work rather than belonging to any single player.
The 29-year-old forward expressed enthusiasm for learning from James, praising the veteran's longevity and ability to handle challenges both on and off the court. Brown said he looks forward to absorbing as much knowledge as possible to apply to his own career.
Reflecting on his departure from Boston, Brown described his time with the Celtics as perfect. He noted that he maintains full respect for former teammate Jayson Tatum, despite having spoken with him very little since the trade occurred. Brown also confirmed that he plans to continue his social and philanthropic projects in the city of Philadelphia.
