Curtis Jones was filmed in an animated argument with Liverpool team-mates moments after the club's pre-season victory over Wrexham in New York on Wednesday.
Jones, who came on as a second-half substitute from the 50th minute, was captured in a fan's video speaking expressively to Dominik Szoboszlai on the pitch after the final whistle. The Hungary captain appeared to be attempting to calm Jones down.
After Jones turned away from Szoboszlai, he became involved in a further exchange with Kostas Tsimikas and Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong appeared to push Jones away from potentially starting another confrontation before eventually leading him away from the situation.
Liverpool had won the match thanks to a second-half goal from teenager Rio Ngumoha, their second consecutive pre-season victory under Andoni Iraola following an opening win against Sunderland on Saturday.
Transfer uncertainty
Jones is widely understood to be set to leave Liverpool this summer, though the club has held firm on its asking price. Inter Milan had a second offer of £21.7 million rejected, with Liverpool valuing the midfielder at between £35 million and £40 million.
Jones has one season remaining on his contract. Liverpool would reportedly prefer to let him enter that final year rather than sell him below their asking price. No further talks over a new deal are currently planned.
Fellow academy midfielder Trey Nyoni, who played just 21 Premier League minutes last season, caught the eye during the match at Yankee Stadium.
