Atlético de Madrid striker Julián Álvarez faces an uncomfortable situation at the Metropolitano Stadium on European transfer deadline day after a high-profile move to FC Barcelona failed to materialize.
The Argentine international has flatly rejected a 150 million euro transfer offer from Premier League club Arsenal, despite Atlético accepting the bid prior to the transfer deadline at 23:59 hours on Tuesday night.
Álvarez has firmly refused to return to English football and will instead remain at Atlético de Madrid to rebuild his standing at the club while awaiting a promised renewed bid from Barcelona in January.

According to reports in British media, North London club Arsenal lodged a formal offer of 150 million euros to sign the forward from Atlético de Madrid.

Under the terms of the Barcelona offer, the salary was structured with a fixed base payment of 15.5 million euros per season, alongside an additional 3 million euros in performance-related bonus variables.
Current salary at Atlético de Madrid
Barring an extraordinary turn of events in the final hours of the transfer window, Álvarez will remain on his existing contract at Atlético de Madrid, where he earns 12 million euros per year.
Financial details published by football website fichajes.com outline that the Argentine forward receives a monthly salary of 1 million euros from the Spanish capital club.
That compensation package equates to weekly earnings of approximately 233,000 euros, or roughly 33,000 euros per day under his current contract at the Metropolitano.
Álvarez signed his agreement with Atlético in 2024, committing his future to the club through to 2030 under a deal that includes a release clause set at 500 million euros.
