Julián Álvarez has decided to sever ties with agent Fernando Hidalgo when the transfer window closes after failing to secure a move from Atlético de Madrid to FC Barcelona.
The decision follows a summer of intense transfer speculation in which the Argentine international sought an exit from the Spanish capital, only for negotiations between the two La Liga clubs to break down.
According to an exclusive report by Spanish sports show El Chiringuito, Álvarez resolved to dismiss Hidalgo after concluding that the strategy pursued during the transfer window was inappropriate. The striker holds lingering frustration over how his future was managed and the expectations generated around a prospective move to Barcelona.

Barcelona transfer negotiations
Hidalgo had taken a central role in driving discussions over a potential transfer. On August 4, media outlet Jijantes revealed that Barcelona sporting director Deco and executive Joao Amaral travelled to Madrid for a high-level meeting with Hidalgo to plan the operation, which Barcelona had designated as its primary transfer priority.
Atlético de Madrid executives view the impending split between Álvarez and his representative as a vital step toward refocusing the forward. Manager Diego Simeone is eager to integrate Álvarez back into the squad, believing that ending his association with Hidalgo could initiate a fresh start at the club.
World Cup comments and return to Madrid
Álvarez had previously signaled his intentions during the World Cup, publicly voicing his desire for a transfer. He stated at the time that while it was not ideal to discuss his situation, he wanted to be honest, adding that he had spoken with club representatives and believed a departure was the best outcome for all parties so he could fulfill his career ambitions.
Following the tournament, Atlético granted Álvarez a three-week holiday. He returned to training on August 10 initially intent on pushing for a departure. Barcelona established this coming weekend as its final deadline to conclude transfer business, but the forward is now set to remain in Madrid.
Match availability and Metropolitano return
Álvarez is set to miss Atlético's match against Málaga on August 19 and may also be left out of the upcoming fixture against Villarreal. Simeone intends to give the striker time during three consecutive away fixtures to regain focus before rejoining the matchday squad.
The Argentine is targeted to make his return in front of the home supporters at the Metropolitano stadium in mid-September during a league fixture against Osasuna, where he will aim to win back the backing of the fans.
