Senne Lammens has cut short his post-World Cup holiday to return early to pre-season training at Manchester United, arriving at Carrington on Thursday four days before he was due back, according to ESPN.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper had been expected to report next Monday following Belgium's quarter-final exit at the World Cup, where they lost 2-1 to eventual winners Spain. Lammens came on after Thibaut Courtois was injured and was at fault for Spain's winning goal, spilling a long-range shot into the path of Mikel Merino, who scored on the rebound.

ESPN reported that Lammens has been keen to return to club football after the tournament.

New signing Youri Tielemans, who joined United from Aston Villa for £35 million earlier this month, was also pictured arriving at Carrington alongside his international team-mate.

Lammens had an impressive debut season at United after signing from Royal Antwerp for £18.2 million last September. He played a key role in helping the club qualify for the Champions League and was voted the Premier League's transfer of the season in May in an online fan poll.

United face Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on Saturday in their next pre-season fixture under manager Michael Carrick.
