Lech Poznań goalkeeper Bartosz Mrozek is close to a loan move to Udinese Calcio, according to Polish outlet meczyki.pl, which reported that negotiations between the Italian club and Lech are ongoing, with a mandatory buy-out clause among the terms being discussed.
Mrozek, a Polish champion with Lech Poznań and a key player for the club during its title-winning season, has made no secret of his wish to leave. He told TVP Sport he wanted to try something new.
He said that he had once thought the Ekstraklasa was his ceiling, but that he now had to be honest that there was something higher, and that dreams which once felt distant were becoming more real with every step. Speaking on the meczyki.pl channel, he added that if Robert Lewandowski could dream of different things, there was no reason he should not dream too.
Lech brought in Mateusz Lis
After Mrozek's comments, Lech Poznań signed goalkeeper Mateusz Lis, announcing in June that he was returning to the club after several years away. Lis first joined Lech in 2013 but never broke into the first team, going out on loan to Miedź Legnica, Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała and Raków Częstochowa before being sold to Wisła Kraków. He later moved to Turkish side Altay SK, then to Southampton in 2022, where he was immediately loaned to Troyes, before a spell at Göztepe preceded his return to Poznań.
Mrozek was left without a starting role at Lech. He had an offer from Turkish club Göztepe but turned it down. Reports now suggest that situation could soon change, with meczyki.pl saying he could move to Serie A instead.
Runjaić's Udinese side
Udinese are coached by Kosta Runjaić, a manager well known in Poland from his time in the Ekstraklasa. The Italian club has recently featured other Polish players, including Jakub Piotrowski, while forward Adam Buksa left Udinese for Mallorca.
Udinese's current first-choice goalkeeper is Maduka Okoye, a 26-year-old Nigeria international valued by Transfermarkt at 10 million euros. Runjaić's side drew 1-1 with Como in their opening match of the new Serie A season.
