Liverpool are expected to make an improved offer for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh after having a £50m bid rejected.

Daily Mail Sport reported upon the departure of Mohamed Salah that Minteh would feature on a list to bolster the wide forward position this summer. The Anfield club ideally want to sign two forwards, and discussions are continuing for Paris St Germain attacker Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool have approached Brighton over signing winger Yankuba Minteh this summer

Minteh is currently sidelined until October after undergoing surgery on his right leg. The 22-year-old Gambia international suffered the injury earlier this month during Brighton's pre-season victory over Roma.

Liverpool reverted their attention to Minteh after deciding that another PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye, was too expensive. Mbaye had been sounded out last week as new manager Andoni Iraola looks to reshape his attacking options ahead of his first season in charge.

Search for attacking reinforcements

Minteh has made 73 appearances for the south coast club since arriving from Newcastle United in a £30m transfer in the summer of 2024. During his time at the Amex Stadium, he has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists for the Seagulls.

While he predominantly plays on the right wing, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has also used him on the left.

Andoni Iraola's side are in the market to sign two forwards, with the club locked in talks over PSG's Bradley Barcola

The pursuit of Minteh and Barcola comes as Liverpool aim to rebuild their squad after waving farewell to several key figures. Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all departed the club at the start of the summer.

Ahead of the new campaign, the recruitment team have so far signed centre-half Jeremy Jacquet from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais and left winger Victor Munoz from Spanish La Liga club Osasuna.

Jones heads for Serie A

In outgoing business, midfielder Curtis Jones is scheduled to have a medical at noon on Friday after Liverpool agreed to sell him to Inter Milan.

The Italian side will pay an initial £26.7m for the player, with a further £4m in potential bonuses and a 10 percent sell-on clause included in the agreement.

The six-time England international, who joined Liverpool at the age of nine, has had his heart set on a move to Serie A for some time after failing to regularly establish himself as a starter at Anfield.

Iraola begins Anfield tenure

The squad turnover marks the start of Iraola's reign on Merseyside. The Spanish manager was brought in to replace Arne Slot following the Dutchman's dismissal at the end of last season.

Despite spending over £450m on new signings last summer, including high-profile deals for Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, Slot struggled to reach the same heights again.

The 2024-25 Premier League champions only narrowly managed to qualify for the Champions League last term, finishing fifth in the table to claim a spot in the expanded European competition.
