Liverpool has agreed to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on loan for the 2026/27 season, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 27-year-old Uruguayan center back will play for the English club throughout the entire campaign.
Araujo previously broke through at Barcelona as a top defensive prospect during a period of club reconstruction. That era was marked by financial difficulties and frustrating eliminations in the UEFA Champions League.
Injuries and competition at Barcelona
A series of injuries later hampered the defender's progress, preventing him from reaching his projected potential. He lost playing time during the final stretch of last season and became one of the last options in defense.
His opportunities diminished further following the rise of Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin. The tactical use of Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde at center back and right back also limited Araujo's role at the Catalan club.
