Liverpool are assessing whether to make an approach for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, as well as his teammate Bradley Barcola.
Mbaye is an 18-year-old right winger who starred for Senegal at the World Cup. Liverpool were among the clubs made aware of his availability earlier in the transfer window, but Manchester City and Tottenham were understood to have shown greater interest. Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have been making the greater progress in talks.
With concerns growing about the squad's capability and lack of goal-power, Liverpool are now considering an approach for both Paris Saint-Germain forwards. Mbaye would be a more natural fit to replace Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield and is closing in on a move to Trabzonspor, while Barcola prefers playing on the left.
Transfer fee and Mbaye's background
Much will depend on the asking price, with Paris Saint-Germain likely to demand over £150 million. The situation is expected to become clearer in the coming days as the clubs continue talks. Mbaye is represented by agent Jorge Mendes.
The 6ft 1in winger has been at Paris Saint-Germain since 2018 and has made 33 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals. He represented France at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Senegal in 2025. Mbaye became the youngest African scorer in World Cup history when he netted a consolation goal against France at the tournament in the United States.
Gakpo interest from Tottenham
Liverpool are looking to bolster their attacking options, though Cody Gakpo has emerged as a target for Tottenham. The club have no plans to sell the Dutch international despite Tottenham making their interest known.
Gakpo, 27, is contracted until 2030, and with market prices escalating for players of his experience, it would take a huge sum to change Liverpool's stance. He had a weaker season than usual last time out, scoring nine goals, though his best season, 2024-25, saw him score 18.
