Mark Carney Says He Does Not Trust FIFA President Infantino

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Wednesday that he no longer trusts FIFA president Gianni Infantino over the handling of a proposed sale of World Cup commercial rights.

Speaking to reporters in Toronto, Carney said good governance does not involve withholding important information from close advisers, the chief operating officer, and board members. He said such actions should be fatal and cause a loss of trust in that individual. Carney added that following the episode and how everything unfolded, he certainly no longer has confidence in Infantino.

FIFA commercial rights proposal

The FIFA proposal provides for the creation of Fifa Forward Enterprise, known as FFE. The company would concentrate the commercial operations of competitions such as the World Cup and the Club World Cup.

However, the project faces strong resistance in international football, particularly from UEFA. UEFA has reportedly threatened to boycott competitions organized by FIFA.
