Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly breaching betting rules by placing 61 bets over 15 months. The 20-year-old player allegedly placed the bets on football matches between November 20, 2024, and February 12, 2026. Sherif now has until Monday, August 17, to respond to the charges.
The FA confirmed the charge against the forward in an official statement. "Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules," the FA said. "It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response."
Career and loan history
Sherif has been with Everton since the age of 13 and built an impressive scoring record at youth level. He trained with the first team last year, though he has never made a professional appearance for Everton.
The Toffees loaned Sherif to League One side Rotherham last season, where he scored twice in 10 games. However, Everton cut the loan short in December after the forward suffered a number of injuries.
The Liberia-born forward joined Port Vale on loan in February, scoring twice in 17 matches. He could not help Port Vale avoid relegation to League Two.
