José Mourinho, the head coach of Real Madrid, has been ranked the seventh highest-paid football manager in the world, according to a study published by the British sports website GiveMeSport. The Portuguese coach earns an annual salary of 12 million euros.
Mourinho is one of three Portuguese coaches to appear in the global top 30, alongside Ruben Amorim and Nuno Espírito Santo.
Three Portuguese Coaches in the Top 30
Amorim, who manages Italian club AC Milan, was placed 18th with an annual salary of 7.33 million euros. He previously led Sporting Clube de Portugal to the Portuguese league title before moving into English football with Manchester United.
Nuno Espírito Santo, who is in charge of Premier League side West Ham United, ranked 29th on the list, earning 5.26 million euros a year. A former Portugal international goalkeeper, Nuno has managed several Premier League clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, before taking over at West Ham.
World's Highest-Paid Coach
The table is topped by Simone Inzaghi, the Italian coach of Al Hilal, who is paid 26 million euros a year, the highest figure in the GiveMeSport study. Al Hilal are based in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and play in the Saudi Pro League, which has used substantial financial backing in recent years to attract high-profile coaches and players away from Europe's top leagues.
Mourinho's Career and Reputation
Mourinho, widely known by his nickname "The Special One", has won league titles in England, Italy, Spain and Portugal over a coaching career spanning more than two decades, along with Champions League triumphs at FC Porto and Inter Milan. His managerial career has also included spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Roma. According to Correio da Manhã, he joined Real Madrid this time after leaving Benfica.
Real Madrid play their home games at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the Spanish capital and have won the Champions League a record number of times.
