French center Olivier Sarr has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid after five seasons in North America's NBA, the Spanish club announced on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The 27-year-old player from Toulouse is returning to Europe to restart his career following injury setbacks in the United States.
Real Madrid stated that the club and Sarr reached an agreement for the center, coming from the Cleveland Cavaliers, to play for the team through the end of the 2027-2028 season. The Spanish basketball team also welcomed him on social media with a phone call message saying hello, it is Olivier.
At Real Madrid, the 2.08-meter center will join two other French players, point guard Théo Maledon and winger Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot.
Contract details and team roster
Sarr had played in the North American league since 2021, notably with Oklahoma City and Cleveland. Slowed by injuries, he spent long months moving back and forth to the G-League, the minor league affiliated with the NBA, and was unable to establish himself at Toronto.
Marred by injuries, Sarr played only four games in the United States this past season for Cleveland at the end of last season. He is the older brother of Alexandre Sarr, who was selected as the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Career in North America
Before reaching the NBA, Sarr developed his skills as a young player in Haute-Garonne. He played for Toulouse Olympique Aérospatiale Club and progressed through the Midi-Pyrénées federal basketball hub.
