PAOK Out of Women's Champions League After Brann Defeat

PAOK were eliminated from the Women's Champions League play-offs after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Norwegian club Brann on Saturday.

The Greek double winners were knocked out of the competition after the loss in Norway, but they will continue their European campaign in the Europa Cup round of 32. The draw for the Europa Cup round of 32 will take place on September 4, with the two legs scheduled for September 23 and September 30.

Early Goal and First Half Battle

Brann took control from the first minute of the match and applied early pressure as expected. However, PAOK took the lead in the 11th minute when Argyriou ran behind the defense and placed a shot into the net for 0-1.

PAOK held their shape comfortably after the opening goal and limited Brann's opportunities. The host side equalized in the 23rd minute when Sommers scored from one meter into an open net following a cross and a defensive mix-up by PAOK.

PAOK had a chance to regain the lead in the 41st minute when Argyriou found herself one-on-one with the Brann goalkeeper, but her effort was saved. The sides went into halftime tied at 1-1.

Stoppage Time Drama

Brann completed the comeback early in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Sommers received the ball unmarked in a shooting position following a free kick and scored to make it 2-1 for the Norwegian side.

The closing stages brought late drama with two goals in stoppage time. Lehtola scored for Brann in the 90+6th minute to extend the advantage to 3-1 and seemingly secure the result.

PAOK responded immediately from the restart by winning a penalty. Mitkou converted the spot kick to reduce the deficit to 3-2, but the final whistle blew shortly after to seal Brann's progression to the play-offs.
