Monaco are set to terminate the contract of former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba after the 33-year-old suffered a fresh thigh injury during training.
The French World Cup winner collapsed in severe pain during a small-sided game last week, shortly after returning to training. According to reports from L'Equipe and Nicemartin.com, the injury has accelerated Monaco's decision to end his contract. Pogba is scheduled for an MRI scan this week.
The Ligue 1 club will try to reach an agreement with Pogba and his representatives over paying out his deal, which expires next summer. Daily Mail Sport understands that he was offered to MLS clubs in America on Tuesday.
Persistent injuries and career setbacks
Pogba joined Monaco last summer after his doping ban was reduced on appeal, allowing him back into football in March 2025. He had previously left Juventus after his contract was terminated by mutual consent in December 2024. However, Pogba played in only six matches for Monaco last season due to persistent injury problems.
Monaco considered this summer's pre-season crucial to determining if Pogba could contribute. He played 45 minutes in one match before a recurrence of a knee injury kept him out of four games. Pogba earned £290,000 per week in his second spell at Manchester United and reportedly earns below £44,000 per week at Monaco.
Pogba was emotional when signing for Monaco, calling his comeback a second chance after a time of darkness. He told Daily Mail Sport in 2024 that he discovered news of his reduced ban while preparing for a film premiere, adding: "We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it." It remains to be seen whether Pogba will try to find a new club or hang up his boots.
