Portuguese referees have abandoned their threatened boycott of matches, including the Supertaça, after the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) privately committed to increasing investment in refereeing.
According to the report, it was not the public apology that referees had demanded but a behind-closed-doors pledge to reinforce financial support for the refereeing class that brought the dispute to an end.
Professionalization of referees is described as the central goal behind the measures the FPF president committed to.
